The Army Preliminary Evaluation I (APE I) of the YO-3A airplane, manufactured by the Lockheed Missiles and Space Company of Sunnyvale, California, was conducted from 18 June through 9 July 1969. Twenty-seven test flights encompassing 36.0 flight hours were flown from Moffet Field Naval Air Station and Crows Landing Naval Auxiliary Landing Field, California. Performance and stability and control tests were conducted to determine the suitability of the airplane to perform a classified mission.
