The purpose of the study was to use a selection of conceivably hazardous junctions to: (1) test parts of the methods used in the traffic safety work and to provide suggestions for improvements of methods based on information from accidents notified to the police; and (2) attempt to find explanations in those cases where a selected junction has shown unsatisfactory traffic safety and to provide suggestions for possible safety measures. The selection comprised 21 junctions. The selected junctions and the accidents occurring there during a five-year period from 1974 to 1978 were studied. New criteria were proposed for determining which junctions should be modified and it was recommended to study the traffic safety situation at junctions.
