In Sweden two different systems are used for road guidance at crossings, i.e. stack direction signs and diagrammatic signs. At laboratory and field tests of present and new designs for road guidance, differences in detection, readability and interpretation have been studied. Tests in a vehicle simulator also point out the main tendencies even when the noted times for apprehension below two seconds indicate lacks in simulator reality for this kind of task.
