The purpose of this research was to study driver eye scanning behavior at highway tunnel approaches. Six drivers (19-59 years old) were tested at three different tunnel approaches. At two tunnel approaches two daytime illumination levels (sunny-light 6700fc or 722001x, cloudy-dark 750fc or 81001x) were investigated. An instrumented car with a corneal reflection technique TV eye movement recording system was used. Each driver made at least six tunnel approach runs in the right lane at 45mph in regular traffic under each condition.
