The Vehicle Selection Matrix was created as an aid in the selection of motor vehicles for compliance test programs. In the accomplishment of this task, a vehicle compliance related data base has been established, as well as a generalized Vehicle/Test Selection Matrix Report which yields flexibility and specificity to the research utilization of the data. The system attempts to predict which vehicles are most likely to be in noncompliance given a specific Federal motor vehicle safety standard. It is the objective of the Office of Standards Enforcement, NHTSA, to test those vehicles considered to be candidates for noncompliance or about which there is inadequate compliance information.
