Progress is reported for a research program to analyze and design a Forster traction drive infinitely variable transmission for improving passenger car fuel economy. Many disc configurations were analyzed using a finite element analysis computer program, and performance and fuel economy estimates were made from a simulation model. An initial transmission layout design was completed, and test rig components were inspected and assembled. (ERA citation 01:023602)
