Cherokee Road Extension is proposed to be a multilane, free access facility linking Cherokee Street in Smyrna to Windy Hill Road at the I-75 interchange. The purpose of the project is to provide more efficient traffic service in the corridor area from the City of Smyrna to the Interstate Highway System. The displacement of several businesses and several homes represent adverse environmental problems. The route traverses a large percentage of wooded land both on the Dobbins Air Force Base Reservation and along privately owned land. The percentage of wooded land taken for highway purposes, in relation to that which will remain, is small.
