The proposed highway improvement will be a four lane, limited access, Federal Aid primary facility extending from the interchange of existing Traffic Route 40 and Legislative Route 26162 to Rocks Works, for a length of seven miles, in Redstone and Menallen Townships, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Adverse impacts include alteration of existing terrain by heavy grading, noise and air pollution during construction, siltation from run-off during construction, displacement of people, and destruction of approximately three hundred acres of wildlife cover. Beneficial impacts include increased highway safety and capacity, reduced air pollution and ambient noise level for developed properties adjacent to the existing route, positive economic stimulus to the area, lower road-user costs by eliminating crowded and congested conditions, and over-excavation treatment of mine voids eliminating a probable source of acid-mine drainage.
