This report contains a road safety analysis of main roads in Norway. Roads that have been formally designated as main roads constitute about 7,000 kilometers of national roads, whose total length is about 2700 kilometers. The main roads are arterial routes that carry long distance traffic. The analysis was made in three stages: (1) Identification of the most hazardous road section; (2) Accident analysis of the most hazardous road sections, designed to identify those accidents making the largest contribution to traffic hazards; and (3) Analysis of safety measures that can be taken to reduce traffic hazards at the most hazardous road sections.
