The major Federal project is construction of a 10 lane Interstate freeway (I-90) across Mercer Island, replacing the existing four lane Highway SR 90 (previously designated as U.S. 10). At the East Channel of Lake Washington, a high level, 10 lane bridge will be constructed, replacing the existing bridge which presently crosses the channel. In the vicinity of the South Bellevue Interchange, the four westbound and four eastbound lanes will be connected into the existing freeway lanes which were constructed in 1969. The two reversible lanes will be constructed through the South Bellevue Interchange to connect with the westbound and eastbound lanes to the east. The total length of project from West Shore of Mercer Island to Mercer Slough in Bellevue is 3.71 miles. The project passes through the Cities of Mercer Island and Bellevue, both of which are in King County, State of Washington. Environmental impacts are discussed.
