The present day possibilities of the ocean weather routing of merchant ships were investigated. To this end the feasibility of minimum time ship routing was studied, involving weather forecast uncertainties and ship performance data. The advantages of minimum time ship routing are indicated, including economic considerations and minimization of fuel consumption. The routing services that actually exist in the Netherlands, Germany, and Great Britain are compared.
