For a real-time simulation of an air-traffic environment with a high degree of automation, a working position for the ground operator (the ATC controller) is proposed. The automated air-traffic system (called ARC2000 for Automated Radar Control after the year 2000) comprises aircraft equipped with flight management systems allowing 4D navigation and direct communication between the ground system and board computers; the ground system will supply conflict avoidance guidance and advice.
