Paper shows range of predictions for scheduled passenger traffic presented by ICAO at IATA Conference, Lucerne, Switzerland, Oct 1967, range of predictions for freight traffic and for total passenger and freight traffic in ton kilometers; some of problems which have to be faced in trying to retain for Europe appropriate share of expanding aircraft markets of future are examined; in particular, attempt is made to predict how market in short/medium-haul field is likely to be distributed between different categories of aircraft; prospects of further technical advances relating to improvements in aerodynamics, in structural design, materials and propulsion, and in reliability, safety and comfort.
