The Shuttle Columbia (OV-102) was launched August 8, 1989, from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, and recovered 5 days 1 hour and 1 minute later on Sunday, August 13, 1989, at Edwards AFB, California. This was a classified Department of Defense (DOD) mission. Five crewmembers took part in this mission: CDR Brewster Shaw PLT Richard Richards MS1 James Adamson MS2 David Leestma MS3 Mark Brown. Other than the DOD primary mission objectives, all six Detailed Supplementary Objectives (DSOs) were completed, including those associated with the Extended Duration Orbiter (EDO) Medical Program.
