These proceedings contain copies of the papers presented at the Symposium on Gravity Gradient Attitude Stabilization held on 3 - 5 December 1968. The symposium was broken into seven sessions. Session I, the Role of Gravity Gradient Attitude Control for Future Spacecraft, is devoted to the subject of representative attitude control requirements for spacecraft missions in planning. Session II, Space Environment, contains two papers: the first is on the magnetic field and the second is on particle environment--at synchronous altitude. Session III, Theory, contains papers on the completeness of theory relating to the design and anticipated performance of gravity gradient systems. Session IV, Design and Operational Experience, presents operational and design experience for existing gravity gradient spacecraft. Session V, Hardware, concentrates on the characteristics, performance, and state of development of existing and projected principal elements of gravity gradient systems. Session VI, New Concepts, is devoted to descriptions of new gravity gradient techniques that will be useful for future satellites. Session VII, the Panel Discussion, contains an edited transcription of the panel discussion. (Author)
