The next generation of military helicopters will have to fly under night and adverse weather conditions below tree top level. Dornier System started 15 years ago to develop avionic systems with a performance that would allow pilots to fly the new missions. In the Dornier baseline display cockpit concept the first steps of the Helicopter Management System (HMS) will be realized. Here, the main aspects of the system are discussed. The main parts are the mission planning system on the ground and the HMS onboard the helicopter.
