The Commercial Protein Crystal Growth (PCG) flight activity planned for flight in July 1994, on STS-65 is sponsored by the NASA Office of Advanced Concepts and Technology (OACT) in support of the objectives of NASA s commercial development of space program. CPCG-05 is a middeck payload developed by the Center for Development of Space based at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The CMC also provides mission management for this payload. The CPCG experiments are elements of the program of the OACT Space Processing Division. The technology and techniques associated with protein crystal growth in microgravity including the supporting knowledge, analytical techniques and data base, continue to be enhanced in order to demonstrate capabilities, and achieve risk levels appropriate for commercial endeavors. In the course of these efforts, valuable information is being obtained that is of significant general benefit. The enclosed Prelaunch Mission Operation Report contains a brief description of the planned CPCG-05 flight activity on STS-65. Questions may be directed to the OACT Space Processing or Flight Program Divisions.
