A correlation of hot firing nozzle flow separation data with existing theories in side loads is presented, resulting in a simple method of estimating nozzle side loads. The tendency of a configuration to produce side loads and their approximate magnitudes is predicted. The model has additional value for the consideration of nozzle modifications to reduce side loads. Results of hot firing tests at NASA George C. Marshall Space Flight Center with these modifications are presented.
