The problem of trajectory optimization and control of multistage satellite launchers is discussed. From a proposed strategy for the launching, an optimization problem is formulated which is considered sufficiently realistic for the phase of mission analysis and definition. Following that, a solution scheme is proposed for the open loop and the closed loop problems, using procedures of suboptimal control and of stochastic control, respectively.
