Method of predicting initial weight characteristics of Earth-launched single or multistage vehicle is proposed; approach to problem has been influenced by need for simplicity and directness, and attempt is made to coordinate both practical and theoretical aspects of stage weight allocation; basic considerations are outlined; to illustrate ease with which proposed method provides reasonable initial weight breakdown for vehicle, example is included.
