Aircraft maintenance, when analyzed from an operator's point of view, will yield basic maintainability requirements which can be translated into general guidelines for design. The simple picture is greatly complicated when specific conclusions are to be drawn for all areas of airframe and system design and when, in the various phases of a project, the realization of maintainability is actually to be pursued and controlled. Some aspects of this process, which also involves endurance and reliability, are dealt with in more detail and illustrated by examples from the actual practice of aircraft design and operation.
