A historical review of the requirement and use of precision guided weapons in Vietnam begins with a discussion on three current guided weapons in the Air Force inventory, the GBU-15, the GBU-24 and the AGM-65. The need for adequately trained aircrews and current constraints on that training is reviewed prior to a discussion on employment of these weapons. A look at future capabilities of weapons is enough. The conclusion reinforces the need for increased training of aircrews for future conflicts. Keywords: Guided bombs, Guided missiles, Laser weapons, Data links, Flight training, Flight crews. (sdw)
