The design of the propulsion system for a Spacelab payload transportation platform is considered. A number of Spacelab experiments require an auxiliary propulsion system in order to carry out missions outside Spacelab's near vicinity. A universally deployable platform has been proposed for this purpose, allowing transportation of single experiment units and the transport and positioning of satellites. To satisfy the requirement of universal applicability the platform should cover a wide range of propulsive power to cater to speeds of 100 m/s up to some km/s, and be modifiable with little qualification effort.
