A rocket-borne photometer experiment used to measure sky luminance, at heights above 100 km, is described. The design of a solar shroud to enable these measurements to be made under daylight conditions is outlined, together with the difficulties and precautions associated with this type of experiment. Results obtained during the flight of the photometer are given, and an estimate is made of the overall accuracy of the results obtained. (Author)
