In recognition of the increasing need by the material science community to have longer duration time in a microgravity environment, the possibilities of extending the capability of the Skylark sounding rocket were investigated. The key features of the design of Skylark 8, and its performance potential, particularly the ability to offer greater than 15 min microgravity are reviewed. Skylark 8 is a two-stage, 0.94 m dia rocket for a 0.43 m dia payload similar to that carried on the TEXUS Program, but with fewer experimental modules. Typically a 270 kg payload is projected to 1000 km altitude.
