A very simple empirical cost model is presented covering fly-away prices for civil and military, old and new, large and small aircraft. The fly-away price is found to be one Swedish 1977 year Crown per installed unit of power (watt) in the aircraft referring to the mean of the first 100 aircraft. The cost model is intended for use in systems analysis and cost effectiveness studies where simple instruments are needed to connect quality and cost, performance and cost, etc. The model alone does not suffice for calculating the acquisition cost (sales price) for a specific and complete aircraft. The cost model is used for comments on some projects of current interest, such as the Swedish light attack aircraft (B3LA) and the Cruise Missile evolution.
