Illustrates how the present air traffic control radar system can handle today's volume of air traffic. But tomorrow's projections indicate the need for a higher capacity radar system, the discrete address beacon system. In the 1980's DABS will be capable of individually identifying and selectively communicating with any single, properly-equipped aircraft in its surveillance area. Describes the principles, applications and add-on features, such as data-link, or DABS.
