Results are given of an investigation of an accident which involved vehicle 1, a 1969 Mercury Montego two-door hardtop, which crossed the roadway centerline and collided practically head-on with a 1963 Falcon two-door hardtop, vehicle 2. The driver of vehicle 1 stated that a steering malfunction caused the vehicle to lose control, but a mechanical analysis of the vehicle failed to reveal a steering defect.
