Methods for calculating the ballistic design characteristics of interplanetary vehicles and determining the most favorable launch dates for flights to the planets are discussed. Possible schemes of spacecraft flight to other planets both with and without return of the vehicles to the Earth are examined. Special schemes of spacecraft flight to the Sun and planets when the gravitational fields of other planets, specifically Venus and Jupiter, are used to improve the ballistic characteristics are considered.
