A study of 694 physically handicapped California drivers showed they had a similar involvement in total accidents, a lesser number of convictions than the average driver, and some indication that male handicapped drivers may be involved in more fatal and injury accidents than the average male driver. The handicapped drivers had loss of, or limited control of, one or more of their limbs and the majority required some form of special hand controls to operate the vehicle. When compared on biographical variables, the handicapped driver was more likely to be male, single, and older than the average driver.
