Safety guidelines applicable to industrial robots are presented, including both intrinsic and external safety systems and equipment. Principle hazards associated with industrial robots include: being struck by moving parts of the robot, being trapped between the robot arm and other objects, and being struck by projectiles ejected by the robot. General safety guidelines for industrial robots and personnel safeguards are suggested. (ERA citation 09:031399)
