The report summarizes an approach to the problem of minimum ship routing under uncertainty. The problem is essentially treated as a multi-stage stochastic dynamic control process under the constraint of ship operational requirements, probabilistic ocean environmental conditions and ship dynamic response characteristics in seaways. A stochastic dynamic programming algorithm was developed to compute the ship's trajectory and its corresponding power output and heading based on the minimization of the expected total voyage cost.
