The major purpose of this paper is to contribute toward improved emergency medical care. The results of helicopter performance in civilian air rescue operations are presented. Suggestions as to the future role of helicopters within the emergency care system are discussed. The other major components of the emergency care system are examined and recommendations have been offered to aid in their improvement. (Author)
