The principal goal of t his research is to develop a method to assess the relative merit of acoustic emissions from Outside the Hull Electric Propulsion, OTHEP. Two secondary goals support this principal goal. First, this research will endeavor to provide a description of the forces of electromagnetic origin, within the propulsion motor that is a component of OTHEP, which excite vibrations in the propulsion motor core. Such a description of the forces of electromagnetic origin could be used in a sophisticated structural acoustic analysis of an OTHEP submarine. Second, an approximate comparison of OTHEP with other submarine propulsion systems will be attempted using an acoustic transfer function analysis. Keywords: Thesis. (rrh)
