Diesel electric a-c power plant will propel Hunley (AS-31), which is 599 ft long with 83-ft beam and displacement of 18,300 tons; propulsion power is obtained from 6 2000-kva, 70.8-cycle, 3300 v diesel generator sets; generators are connected to 15,000-hp, 157-rpm, 3300-v propulsion motor through 5-pole reversing contactor; calculations for ship's stopping time from full ahead to dead in water with both 6 and 3 generators are shown graphically; procedure for analyzing reversal and predicting stopping performance is outlined.
