The manual provides instructions for installing, operating, and maintaining a protective canopy on the Joy Mfg. Co. shuttle car. The primary function of the protective canopy is to protect the operator of the shuttle car against roof falls. The basic configuration consists of an understructure that supports a hydraulic adjusting system which in turn, supports, raises, and lowers the canopy. The canopy has an expanded metal mesh top that prevents hazardous-size debris from falling upon the operator. Other protective features include rock guards, which prevent large slabs or rocks from entering the protective canopy work station during the conveyor operation, without limiting the operator's visibility; a spring return-swing-down bumper for side protection; two adjustable operator seats that raise and lower with the canopy; and canopy control that can be operated from the forward looking seat.
