A new graphite-epoxy rotor hub was designed for the CH-54B helicopter, and a 1/2-scale structural model was fabricated. The hub consisted of three composite plates, which cooperated well to provide efficient load paths. The composite plates were simple and readily fabricated. As a result, the new hub promises improvements in cost, weight, damage tolerance, radar detectability, and maintainability when compared to conventional metal hubs.
