The Maricopa Association of Governments Transportation Planning Office is updating the computer models used to prepare forecasts of traffic volume in the Phoenix area. One element of the modeling effort involves external travel or trips having both origin and destination outside the area but passing through the area. Roadside interviews were conducted to gather data on such trips to aid in model calibration. Specifically, data was gathered on the following items: (1) Trip Origin; (2) Trip Destination; (3) Trip Purpose; (4) Vehicle Garaging Location; (5) Vehicle Occupancy; (6) Vehicle Classification; (7) Vehicle Registration. The document describes the procedures utilized in the gathering of the described data.
