The Naval Submarine Base, New London, Connecticut has a requirement for additional ammunition storage. Clearance for a distance of 1,235 feet will be required around the storage site. This clearance distance is based on 20,000 pounds of conventional explosives. The safety zone requires privately-owned land outside the present station boundary. It will not be necessary to acquire any family dwellings. Particularly all of the acreage is rough wooded terrain and swamp area, zoned residential. Removal of less than 36 acres of land will take place by the proposed acquisition along with a loss of tax revenues of a slight amount to the community.
