The project will generally involve the construction of a 1,600 ft. x 100 ft. extension to the southwest end of the existing runway, strengthening and widening to 100 ft. of the existing runway, and construction of a 450 ft. x 150 ft. addition to the existing aircraft parking apron. Land acquisition to facilitate this enlargement involves 64.5 acres of primarily open field, not cultivated, with some scrub trees. The 1,600 ft. runway extension will allow the airport to accept sixty percent (60%) of the basic transport fleet at sixty percent (60%) of useful load. This will allow the small business and executive jets, which cannot currently be accommodated, to operate at the Pickens County Airport. This additional runway length will also allow operations by medium twin-engine propellor driven aircraft, which is now marginal.
