The preparations are described for measuring the telecommunication transmission parameters of the Symphonie satellite. The mission specifications and the telecommunication equipment are discussed. An antenna range in La Turbil (France) was chosen to determine the transmission characteristics. A model of the satellite, covered by a radome, was set up on a mountain ridge, and the measurements were carried out over a ravine 1450 m wide and 350 m deep. Ground reflections were minimal as a result of the topography. The satellite was mounted on a revolving table with adjustable azimuth and elevation angle. Special attention was paid to accurate EIRP measurements. Possible errors in measurement are accounted for. (Author)
