The Aircraft Compatibility Division at Sandia National Laboratories has the responsibility to assure that the aircraft that have been designed to carry and release nuclear gravity bombs are indeed compatible with the bombs. Division personnel work with Air Force and Navy personnel and their contractors to make sure that bomb electrical, mechanical, and aerodynamic requirements are fully understood. Once an aircraft has been designed, a series of tests and analyses are run on the aircraft/bomb nuclear weapon system and descriptive weapon system documentation is produced. At the conclusion of an aircraft compatibility program, a recommendation is made to add the aircraft to the nuclear gravity bomb Aircraft Compatibility Control Drawing (ACCD). 1 fig.
