Design approach considers series of tradeoffs in which objectives and requirements related to weapon delivery are arrayed against those objectives and requirements related to aerodynamics; choice of weapon depends upon target characteristics, defenses, and mission parameters; manner of weapon installation and its impact on aircraft design; external carriage of weapons, and possible solutions; advanced computer programs that carry tradeoff studies for assisting in avionics system selection, evaluating flight characteristics with weapons on and off, and defining weapon-separation characteristics in terms of basic design are urged.
