A total of 8543 cars, up to five years old, were checked and their data put on tape. The most serious feature, though not the most common defect, found in examining the collected data, is undoubtedly the poor condition of the front-end geometry on many vehicles. There are a number of inspection techniques and method problems which have arisen during the course of the clinic's operation, these include: ball-joint checking and specifications, brake testing equipment, damper testing equipment, and headlamp testing standards. A suggested method of coorelating vehicle condition with accident frequency and severity is also included in the study. A discussion on the required frequency of Periodic Motor Vehicle Inspection is included, and results in the broad conclusion that the frequency should be based on the components requiring more frequent examination, and that the ideal answer is a split system-with some components being examined twice yearly, and others once yearly.
