The article discusses an attempt to develop a new type of rudder design by selecting a changed total plan and avoiding the expensive miter gear which would provide for an increased propelling performance at equivalent conditions of flow technique. The present arrangement has a drive system propelled through a hollow rudder shaft by an electric motor in the ship. The propelling chamber consists of a cylindrical nosepiece, coaxial to the rudder shaft. A propeller with an opposite blade pitch is driven, by the vertical drive shaft, into the upper and lower inflow opening of the propeller chamber in the same direction of rotation.
