Former presidential yacht Williamsburg, which was converted in 1962 to oceanographic and biological research vessel R/V Anton Bruun, is twin screw vessel having 1100 shp direct diesel drive on each shaft; 150 shp active rudder provides for maneuverability in close quarters and on station, and for constant slow speeds (about 0.7-13.5 knots) during fishing and biological sampling programs; it was supplied by Pleuger Unterwasserpumpen GMBH; submersible electric motor is installed in rudder of normal design, propeller is fitted to motor shaft at after end about even with trailing edge of rudder.
