The purpose of the illustrated history is to put the heritage of the Air Force Communications Command into perspective as it celebrates its twenty-fifth anniversary as a major air command. The volume is an updated and enlarged version of a similar book prepared in 1981. It is not meant to be a critical, analytical account, but a narrative highlighting the growth of the command since 1938 from a simple system with 300 men operating only within the continental United States to a major air command with over 60,000 people, worldwide responsibilities, and a highly complex mission.
