This is an investigation of the effect upon traffic safety of different improvements in horizontal road curves. The National Road Administration has sponsored the project and also collected certain data. The investigation is a non-experimental before and after study of accidents. It has not been possible to eliminate the effect of regression-to-mean. However, the results indicate that when chevron signs are introduced in curves, the traffic safety increases. The results indicate no such effect for other countermeasures studied (sight clearance by removing earth or vegetation, widening and straightening, profile adjustments etc).
