The book concerns Soviet and foreign experience in the design and use of synchronizers in the step gear boxes of transport vehicles. Side by side with description of the basic steps in the development of the gear engagement mechanisms and of the design used in synchronizers of domestic and foreign manufacture, in this work much attention is devoted to the theory of gear engagement in gear boxes equipped with synchronizers, and to figuring out the basic parameters of synchronizers in the light of the intended purpose of the vehicle and the conditions under which it will be used as well as of the peculiarities of the transmission layout and the drive operation.
