Some general remarks about aerodynamic design are given first. Then, a short survey of the design methods used here including the basic ideas and, particularly, an improvement of the design method of McFadden for supercritical airfoils are presented. Also, an overview is given of the analysis methods in use at the DLR institute for design aerodynamics. Design procedures, which use the forementioned design and analysis methods, are explained in detail. With these procedures, several designs of airfoils and nacelles were performed. Results of selected design examples are discussed.
